Description:Workers at G.H. Downing's brick and tile works on Audley Road, Chesterton. Seated on the left hand side with her arm around a man's shoulder is Annie Jones (later Hall, born 1903).

The company was founded by James Downing in the late 19th century. G.H. Downing took over the Howle Brick and Tile Co. in Apedale in 1939 and had a third site at Brookhouse. They were a major employer in Chesterton into the 1970s. The site is now (2023) occuopied by Ibstock Brick.
