Description:1st Hixon Scout Group in a railway carriage during one of their summer camping trips which took pace between 1922 and 1926. Standing on the platform wearing a flat cap is Wilmot Martin. He was Chairman of the Committee for the troop which was founded in 1913. The troop went on Whit week camps between 1922 and 1925 to Benllech Sands in Anglesey or, in 1923, to Branscombe in Devon and Mr Martin attended them all. The troop disbanded in 1929 when their President, Major A.T. Radcliffe retired and was re-founded in 1969.

Wilmot Martin was a farmer who was born near Bridgeford in 1874. He finally settled in Hixon. He was known locally as 'Staffordshire's Harry Lauder' due to his charity fund raising concerts, where he impersonated the popular Scottish comedian and singer Sir Harry Lauder. These concerts began during the First World War, originally to raise funds for Belgian refugees.
