Description:This postcard image was taken when the Grade 1 listed Hilton Hall was used as a convent. The present Hilton Hall was built for Henry Vernon in the 1720s, possibly designed by Richard Trubshaw. It replaced an earlier 14th Century house. It was substantially extended in the 1830s. The family sold the estate to the nuns of the Order of St Joseph of Bordeaux for use as a convent in 1955. Since 1986 it has been used a the corporate headquarters of Tarmac Ltd, then a commercial office and business centre, and is now (May 2023) a wedding venue.
Postcard published by Frith Ltd of Reigate. The firm was founded by Francis Frith in 1859 and closed in 1971.
