Description:An aerial view of the new Eccleshall Church of England School buildings on Shaw Lane at Gaolbutts, Eccleshall taken from the south west.

By 1925 the old school building at the bottom of Kerry Lane had become too small to meet Eccleshall's education needs so new buildings were designed by Bernard Widdows of Derby and built by Walter Danks, building contractors of Eccleshall at a cost of £11,500. The new school at Gaolbutts was formally opened by the Bishop of Lichfield on 25 April 1928. The site was later Bishop Lonsdale CofE School and then Eccleshall Middle School which in turn closed in summer 1989. The eastern part of the site was was purchased for community use and was formally opened as Eccleshall Community Centre in April 1993. The western part of the site has been redeveloped and is now occupied by housing on Bentham Way.
