Description:A parade of police passing by crowds at the corner of Tontine Street and Old Hall Street in Hanley. A senior officer leads them and police bands follow on behind. He may be Roger James Carter, Chief Constable of Hanley Police from 1901 to 1910 and then County Borough of Stoke-on-Trent Police from 1910 to 1925. He was then the first Chief Constable of Stoke City Police from 1925 until his death in April 1936. The Head Post Office can be glimpsed at the far left hand side, built in 1906. The public house on the corner is the Waggon and Horses. We are not sure what event is taking place, but one possibility is that it could be part of the celebrations for the Coronation of King George V in 1911.

A postcard photographed and published by Samuel Ellis of 13 Lichfield Street, Hanley.
