Description:High Shutt is a piece of high common ground outside Cheadle. The Scots Pine has since died but it was replaced, on the same spot, with a Monterey Pine, provided by Mr J.W. Plant in 1991. There are cars and groups of men and boys at the roadside.

The postcard picture was probably originally taken in the early 1930s and published by Harvey Barton & Son Ltd. of Bristol, in their “Nuview” Series. However, on the reverse it states that this postcard was printed under licence issued by the Ministry of Supply. The postcard was probably re-issued during the Second World War.

Also printed on the reverse is a quotation: “We shall continue steadfast in faith and duty until our task is done”. This declaration was made by the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, during his speech to the Allied Delegates at a meeting held at St. James Palace, London, on 12 June 1941.
