Description:This unused postcard view shows a busy scene taken by the outdoor Market which is still in situ (February 2023) on the High Street in Cheadle. The photograph looks north-east along the High Street. Many of the buildings remain although over the years their ground floors have changed use on several occasions.

The postcard picture was originally taken in the early 1920s and published by Harvey Barton & Son Ltd. of Bristol, in their “Nuview” Series. However, on the reverse it states that this postcard was printed under licence issued by the Ministry of Supply. The postcard was probably re-issued during the Second World War.

Also printed on the reverse is a quotation: “We shall continue steadfast in faith and duty until our task is done”. This declaration was made by the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, during his speech to the Allied Delegates at a meeting held at St. James Palace, London, on 12 June 1941.
