Description:Sir Philip Brocklehurst and his daughter Anne mounted on horses outside Roaches House.

Roaches House stands to the south-east of Hen Cloud on The Roaches. Originally built in 1876 as Argyle Cottage, this house was later renamed Roaches House. It was leased by John Hall, of Brough, Nicholson and Hall, silk manufacturers in Leek, from 1888. It was originally part of the Swythamley estate, owned by the Brocklehurst family. Courtney Brocklehurst kept a private zoo here in the 1930s and had the roof removed in 1937 because it leaked so much. After his death in 1942 the house had further owners, but since 2006 it has been renamed Roaches Hall and is available to let as a party house and wedding venue.
