War memorial, Maer

Description:Maer's war memorial stands on the A51 opposite the road to Maer village at the foot of Berth Hill. It consists of a cross with figures of a soldier and a Royal navy division soldier. On the plinth are the names of 13 men from Maer who gave their lives during the First World War, and a further three who died during the Second World War. It was sculpted by Messrs Bridgman and Sons of Lichfield.

It was unveiled on 9 April 1922 by General J.V. Campbell, V.C., D.S.O., C.H.G., Legion d'Honneur and dedicated by the Bishop of Lichfield. At the same time a tablet was unveiled in the porch of Maer Church which lists all those from the parish who served during the First World War.
