Description:A postcard view of Blackbrook School close to a field of cut corn, piled into stooks.

The school was built here in 1897 by Mr Harrison of nearby Maer Hall to ‘keep the noise of the children out of the village’ and to serve the two hamlets of Maer and Blackbrook. The original school in Maer was converted into a Men’s Institute, which later became the village hall.

The building, which stands next to the A51, has been altered and extended and is currently (2023) in use as a retail outlet.

Postcard photographed and published by C.H. Deakin, Newcastle-under-Lyme.
