Description:The scant ruins of Heighley Castle are on the hill in the background, almost completely obscured by trees. In the foreground is Heighley Castle Farm.

Heighley Castle was the home of the Audley family in Plantagenet times. The remains are those of a motte and bailey castle built in the 12th century, and extended in the 13th century. It was destroyed by Cromwell in 1644. Very little is visible today: two sections of red sandstone wall, the dry rock cut moat, the foundations of four drum towers and a drawbridge remain.
