Description:A rickshaw made in 1903 by Richardson & Son of Uttoxeter for export to Mr F.G. Keeling, Shanghai, China. This photograph was taken outside the Richardson family home, next door to the company works at Heath Road, Uttoxeter.

Frederick George Keeling had been the landlord of the Cross Keys Hotel in Uttoxeter but had emigrated to Shanghai and had set up in business there. He ordered 30 Rickshaws in 1903. Further orders of rickshaws for export followed.

The business was started by George Richardson, a wheelwright in Bradley Street, when he opened coachbuilding premises at Park Street in the 1840s. The company built a variety of horse drawn vehicles. By 1907 the business began to repair motor vehicles and sell bicycles and by the 1950s was doing very little wheelwrighting or coachbuilding. George's great-grandson sold the business, by then a motor garage, in 1962.
