Description:An interior view of the National School at Whiston, north Staffordshire dated Easter 1899. A teacher's desk can be seen to the right, there are maps on the wall, and the school benches are facing the chancel. The National School was built in 1873, at a cost of £600 and enlarged in 1894 at a cost of £300, for about 135 children. The class room and chancel pictured here were added in 1891 at a cost of £230. A Church of England service was held at the school twice every Sunday and once a week in Advent and Lent.
