Description:This postcard view shows a house on the left and the smithy in the centre background. Between the house and smithy there is a road traffic sign advising road users of a school nearby, which is further along the road, out of shot of this photograpgh.

The smithy was sited on the west side of Hyde Lea Bank, between Coppenhall and Hyde Lea. The blacksmith at the time was George Fletcher. The smithy was probably first occupied by William Symcox in the 1840s. The smithy closed when George Fletcher retired in the early 1950s.

The franking mark on his postcard is unclear, however, the stamps indicate that it was posted some-time between 1945 and 1955 to an address at Rhos-on-Sea, North Wales.

This postcard was published by Lilywhite (1932) Ltd., Sowerby Bridge.
