Description:The Italian Gardens at Hoar Cross Hall showing parterre beds and clipped hedging and topiary.
Hoar Cross Hall was built between 1862 and 1871 to the design of architect Henry Clutton for Hugo Meynell and his wife Emily Charlotte. Henry died as a consequence of a hunting accident in 1871. His widow continued to live there with the companionship of her younger brother, Frederick, until her death in 1904. Frederick was to inherit her estates on the condition that he changed his surname from Wood to Meynell.
