Description:Local models were used in a mannequin parade, displaying shoes, held in the Lotus Hall during the previous week, for the benefit of managers of Lotus retail shops.

This year (1956) Lotus introduced for the first time in this country, a shoe manufactured from a material which had gained popularity in America. This shoe is named ‘Cinderella’s glass slipper’, in reality it is made from a clear pliable material, known as “vinylite”, while the high heel is made from a material known as “lucite”.

Vinylite figured quite often in the forty different lines displayed after the show and it was hoped that it would be received well in this country. Compere for the show was Miss Gwen Pruden (Fashion Advisor to Lotus and Delta Ltd) and the shoes were modelled by three local girls, who had no previous experience of modelling. A vote of thanks to the models was proposed by Mrs H S Rooker (General Manager).

This photograph and article was published in the Stone Guardian on Saturday 11 February 1956.
