Description:Viewed from Church Hill, Market Street, Hednesford. This was the town's main shopping street. The woman stands outside of the Uxbridge Arms public house which was named after the local hero of the Battle of Waterloo, Henry Paget, 2nd Earl of Uxbridge and Marquis of Anglesey.
Notice the barber's pole outside the recently built shops. It served this purpose for many years, later for Les Clark whose barber’s shop was the setting for many of the anecdotal stories in J.E. Roberts’ 'Bilberry Pie' collection.
