Description:Jack Worthington pictured at home at Hawthorne Lodge, Lichfield Road, Stone. The Worthington family lived here from 1940 until 1973.

Born John Worthington in Stafford in 1901, Jack opened a cycle shop in Stafford in 1920 and shortly afterwards purchased a charabanc for tours and outings. By 1939 Worthington Tours had a sizeable fleet of vehicles. During the Second World War he supplied the transport for the Royal Ordnance Factory at Swynnerton. In 1947 he purchased Red warrior Coaches of Birmingham which became the headquarters of his business. From 1940 he lived at Hawthorne Lodge in Stone and was driven to work in his black chauffeur-driven Jaguar. Jack died in 1970 and Worthington Coaches were taken over by National Travel in 1973.

Hawthorne Lodge stood on what is now the site of Jordan Way, opposite Stone Cricket Club's ground.
