Description:This view looks along Eastgate Street and on the left is the junction with Tipping Street. This area was the site of the old crockery market; it is still known as Pitcher Bank today.

All of the buildings in this picture remain (July 2022). The seven story building on the left is the Wedgwood building which was built in the 1960s and owned by Staffordshire County Council. For many years it was in use by the Local Taxation & Licences Department and was later occupied by the Education Department.

On the left by the bus shelter there is a BT telephone box. In the centre the Shrewsbury Arms public house can be seen behind the Chaserider Midland Red mini bus. On the right of the Shrewsbury Arms are the British Legion’s premises.

This photograph was taken by Stafford photographer Tony Boydon.
