Description:This view looks along Crabbery Street from the junction with Gaolgate Street in Stafford. In 1992 the town centre became pedestrianised and the A34 was re-routed around the town.

All of the buildings in the picture remain (October 2023) although some have changed use on several occasions. On the extreme left is a jewellers shop that later became known as Ernest Jones Jewellers, adjoining is the Save the Children Charity shop and in the distance stands the Market Hall and multi-story car park. On the right there is a glimpse of the former Co-op store, adjacent is Adams children’s shop and on the extreme right is a part view of a clearance sale being held at the Burton menswear shop which was later occupied by Orange and then the EE mobile phone shop.

This photograph was taken by Stafford photographer Tony Boydon.
