Date:24th of January 1918

Description:On the 12 January 1918 there was an explosion at the Minnie Pit and 155 men and boys were killed. This photograph was taken before the Rescue Brigade descended into the pit. Pictured left to right on the back row are Arthur Johnson, Frank Scott, John Swingewood and Ernest Scrivens, with John Bailey (leader), Walter Clifford (Inspector), and Enock Jepson (Captain) seated. Notice the lack of protective clothing the crew are wearing and the canary in a cage, that was used to warn of gas.

Jamage was one of the Bignall Hill Collieries and closed in 1948.
