Description:This view of the Dining Room at Chillington Hall was taken by County Life in 1948.

The Dining Room with its delicate triglyph frieze, which has also been known as the ‘Eating Room’, was designed by Sir John Soane. The large portrait at the far end of the room is Pompeo Batoni’s Grand-Tour portrait of Thomas Giffard.

In a further article in Country Life magazine during September 1999, the Dining Room was photographed with vintage floral striped wallpaper and later in April 2022, visitors to the Hall were shown the Dining Room with digitised tapestry design wallpaper.
