Date:1930 - 1933 (c.)

Description:Edgar Platt with his “lather boy” standing in the doorway of his hairdressers shop at 5, Uttoxeter Road (formally High Street), Longton, Stoke on Trent.

Note the metal pole bracket above the shop door which would have held a red and white stripped barber’s pole. Edgar Platt was best remembered as a men’s hairdresser but at the time of this photograph it is clear that he was also styling women's hair as he is advertising “bobbed & shingled” ladies hair styles and Kalene hair products in the shop window. Other advertisements are for men’s “Shavaloo” shaving soap and a hanging sign for Wills Woodbine cigarettes.

Edgar Platt was a keen crown green bowler, playing for Longton Park Bowls Club.
