Description:Apprentices at James Gibbons Ltd, Wolverhampton, in the early 1970s. James Gibbons Ltd originally started as a gunsmiths and locksmiths, later expanding their production to take in architectural fittings.

The company has the proud honour of being the ‘oldest established lock-maker in Britain’, claiming to have been founded in 1670 by Thomas Gibbons. In 1750 James Gibbons took over the business and gave the company its name. At some point prior to 1851 the company had set up its St. John's Works on Church Street, Wolverhampton. As James Gibbons Format Ltd. the company continues.
