Description:The Queen Mother walking outside the Lotus Shoe factory on Sandon Road, with crowds of workers. She is accompanied by James Bostock, Chairman and Managing Director of Lotus and High Sheriff of the County. During her tour of the factory the Queen Mother visited all of the departments, and officially opened a new closing room conveyor belt which was to carry finished shoes. A gold bag made from kid was used to carry the first pair of shoes on the belt. Employees who had worked at Lotus for over forty years were allowed to stand in a special section of the factory yard, and all retired workers were invited back for the occasion. Prior to her Lotus visit the Queen mother officially opened Blithfield Reservoir and had lunch at Blithfield Hall.
