Description:Mrs Roberts, wife of Rev. D P Roberts, the Vicar of the triple parish of Marston-with-Whitgreave and Yarlet , appraises the Hoover Junior model 119 vacuum cleaner, which was presented to Mr and Mrs Roberts by Mr J B Hughes, the Vicars’ Warden, as a wedding gift from the parishioners of the Marston section of the parish. Looking on are, to the left, Mr E Bailey (People’s Warden) and right, Mr F Jennings (Licensed Reader).

The presentation took place at a social gathering of around 100 people at Yarlet Institute on Monday 27 October, which included entertainment by Harry Deggs’ Concert Party and the Yarlet Institute Committee, provided refreshments. The Vicar and his wife were married at Liverpool on 20 September, although he came to the parish 12 months earlier. After the presentation he told the Newsletter that he and his wife had already received gifts from parishioners of the other two sections of the parish.
