Description:Mr N E Veale, of Manor Rise, Walton, Stone tells the Mayor of Stafford, Alderman C E Fowke, himself an expert photographer, how he took “A Winter’s Day”, the print which gained him the silver medal for the best exhibit in Stafford Photographic Society’s annual exhibition of prints and slides, opened by the Mayor in Stafford Library on Monday 24 March. Looking on from left to right: Mr H R Thornton, FRPS., (adjudicator), Mr S D Barnwell (Secretary) and Mr H J Cochrane (President).

The categories were:
Advanced: 1 and silver medal, Mr N E Veale for “A Winter’s Day”, 2, Mr J D Jones for “Day’s Departing”, 3, Mr J D Jones for “Night Nurse”. Certificates were awarded to Mr N E Veale for “Upstairs Flat”, Mr S D Barnwell for “Scottish Stronghold”, Mr Will Ball for “After Rain”, and Mr W Stuttard for “Rolling in Spring-time”.

Intermediate: 1 and bronze medal, Mr N Aveyard for “Perpetuam Mobile”, 2, Mr J K Greensmith for “November”, 3, Miss E M Madeley for “The Mill-pond”. Certificates were awarded to Mr N Aveyard for “Winter’s Grip”, Mr J K Greensmith for “Mawddach Estuary”, and Mr N Aveyard for “Harbourage”.

Beginners: 1 and bronze medal, Mr G W Keleghan for “Winter Morning”, 2, Mr G D Wright for “Tranquillity”, 3, Mr G W Keleghan for “Exercise Spring”. Certificates were awarded to Mr K B B Cunningham for “Bleak Tracery”, Mr S J Heyman for “Winter Sunset” and Mr G D Wright for “Autumn Morning”.

Record: 1, Mr T Child for “Quiet Room”, 2, Mr J K Greensmith for “Time Gentlemen Please!”, 3, Mr G H Morling for “Carved Teak”. Certificates were awarded to Mr J K Greensmith for “XIVth Century Archway” and Mr N C Jarrett for “Forward Rush”.

Lantern Slides: 1 and silver medal, Mr S D Barnwell for “Night Heron”, 2, Mr N E Veale for “Pond in Winter”, 3, Mr C E Pollington for “Mist and Ice”. Certificates were awarded to Mr N E Veale for “Morning in the Valley” and “Winter’s Pattern”.
