Description:Workers in the customs and excise department at the Post Office's sorting office depot on Newport Road, Stafford checking for undeclared dutiable goods, many of which were food parcels from Canada and New Zealand. In the 1950 Christmas rush period Stafford Post Office dealt with a total of 926,523 letters and cards and expected a three per cent increase in 1951. Over 300 temporary workers were recruited to deal with the extra post, around 70 of whom were recruited from nearby King Edward VI Grammar School
