Description:Mr Alfred John Malpass of Lapley Hall Farm, Lapley, is pictured examining the coat of his Shire gelding champion “Prince”, while Sam Speed, for 13 years his stud groom, feeds “Sambo”, another of Mr Malpass’ fine horses. Mr Malpass was aged 54 at the time of this photograph. He farmed 320 acres at Lapley Hall Farm and had an absorbing hobby of breeding and showing Shire horses that made him famous at shows throughout the Country.

In the background is the tower of All Saints' Church, Lapley.
