Description:Bernard Hipkiss, Locksmith and key member, then aged 48, is pictured shaping one of the thousands of keys he made every year. At the time of this photograph he had been the proprietor for the last eight years of the only local “House of Keys” for miles around, where he became a key “Doctor”, a mender of broken locks and keys, at his premises near to Gaol Square in Stafford. Previously Mr Hipkiss worked for twenty years pulling pints at his father’s inn, the Star and Garter on the Wolverhampton Road in Stafford.
