Description:This postcard view shows members of the Stafford Branch of The National Federation of Discharged and Demobilised Sailors and Soldiers (NFDDSS). If you recognise anyone in the picture or the location please contact us.

In the background on the left there is the group’s large banner and in the centre a display of guns, swords, helmets and military equipment. The NFDDSS was founded in January 1917 and later amalgamated with The National Association of Discharged Sailors and Soldiers, The Comrades of the Great War and The Officers Association. On Sunday 15 May 1921, these four organisations officially united to form the British Legion. On the Legion’s 50th anniversary in 1971, Her Majesty the Queen granted the Legion a ‘Royal’ prefix and it became known as the Royal British Legion.

This unused postcard was published by T Hipwell, 24 Albert Terrace, Stafford.
