Description:Len Clarke of 31, Church Hill, Hednesford with 'Truro' the dog. Len lost two fingers in a childhood accident. He was born in 1905 to James and Phoebe Clarke who had come to live in Hednesford from Worcestershire for the work in the coal mining industry. Following periods working as a butcher’s boy and as a coal miner at the Valley Pit, he emigrated in 1926 to New Zealand where he married a Scottish nurse he had met on the ship. They soon left for New South Wales, Australia where he lived for the rest of his life. During World War 2 he was an RAAF Medical Orderly serving in Borneo.
