In later years the Fire Station moved to a new site on Newport Road. The building which is Grade II listed became known as the Old Fire Station and for several years it was occupied by a Hairdressers, later it was a Menswear shop and in May 2021 the premises has an Estate Agents ‘For Sale’ notice board attached to the building. The Auxiliary Fire Service was formed from volunteers at the outbreak of war, to assist the regular Fire Brigades. The name was changed to The National Fire Service in August 1941 when the regional regular Fire Brigades and the AFS were merged. After the war the NFS was dissolved in 1948 and Fire Brigades returned to being organised on a regional basis.
