Description:A steam train thunders through Newcastle station. The engine is an Ivatt Class 4, built by the LMS from 1947.

Newcastle railway station was situated off King Street, across from the Borough Arms Hotel. The line, which originally went from Stoke to Newcastle was opened in 1852, with an extension to Market Drayton in 1870. The ramp, seen on the right hand side of this photograph, went to the street and booking office.
The line was closed in 1965.
