Description:The building seen on the far right hand side of this photograph was a private house, which was demolished in 1930. The Silverdale Equitable Industrial Co-operative Society purchased the site and built an emporium, which still stands today. The Municipal Hall can be seen further up the Ironmarket. This was built, between 1888 and 1890, to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. During its time the Hall contained a Council Chamber, Library, Dance Hall, and School of Art. The Hall was demolished in 1967 and the present Newcastle Library now occupies the site.
