Description:A programme for the unveiling ceremony for an oak tablet in memory of William Pitt at the Order of Druids 'Good Samaritan' Lodge, No. 1352, which took place at the Wheatsheaf Hotel, Talke Road, Red Street,Newcastle-under-Lyme. Mr Pitt had been associated with the lodge for 49 years.
William Pitt (1853-1922) worked at the Jamage Colliery, and was still working down the coal mine when he died in 1922, aged 68 . William and his wife Anne lived at 16 Hope Street, Bignall End, Audley, and they are both buried at Audley Parish Church.
The Order of Druids is a friendly society founded in 1858 having split from the United Ancient Order of Druids.
