Description:This photograph shows the the junction of Merrial Street and High street. The buildings on the right were demolished in the mid 1960s to make way for the York Place shopping centre. Bookland was the first shop to open in the new centre on 14th December 1967, occupying the corner site on the right hand side of this photograph. Bookland was still on this site in 2002.
