Description:George V and Queen Mary visited Newcastle as part of a visit to north Staffordshire in 1925. During the same visit the King created the city out of the County Borough of Stoke-on-Trent.

The island site, seen here on the right hand side, was demolished in the 1930's, and the Lancaster Buildings were built on the site. The shop on the far right hand side was Hamrogue's tobacconists.
