Description:St. Peter's Church at Maer dates from about 1210, though it was restored in 1600 by Sir John Bowyer. The south doorway, seen here covered in ivy, certainly dates from the 1200s. On 29th January 1839 Josiah Wedgwood II's daughter, Emma, married her cousin Charles Darwin, the scientist, in Maer Church.
