Description:John Stevenson (1844-1916) was responsible for re-opening Hollington Quarry after a long period of redundancy. Hollington Stone was used to repair stonework at Covent Garden Market, Ludlow Castle and Dudley Castle. There were two quarries at Hollington run by the Stevensons, one produced white sandstone and the other produced red sandstone. When her husband John died in 1916 Mary Stevenson took over the management of the White Turn Quarry. Her stepson George Stephenson owned the Red Quarry. More recently, stone from Hollington Quarry was used in the building of Coventry Cathedral. Photographed by Alfred McCann of Uttoxeter.
