Description:This outcrop pit is 'Plant's Hole', at Lightwood, Cheadle. During the General Strike outcrop pits (about 4 feet square) were dug for coal getting. From left to right: Arthur Plant, Jack Alcock, Albert Plant, Mrs Albert Plant, Mrs Boon, Plant, George Rushton, Levi Johnson, (kneeling), Ned Plant, and Bob Plant. It was named after the Riflemen's Arms which was a pub in Cheadle, at the junction of Chapel Street and Tape Street. It was later demolished for road changes and eventually the site made way for the construction of the present 'Morrison's Roundabout'.
