Description:Situated on the hill side above the Hawkesyard Priory, this spring-fed fish pond may have originally have been a carp pool which was used to provide fish for food. It would undoubtedly also have had a scenic value with its water lily pads and idyllic setting. Auction particulars dated 1894 tell us that the lake is a little over one acre in area and that : "...a series of tanks has been arranged which supply the Mansion, the grounds, fountains, stabling, home farm and other portions of the Property, by gravitation, with a never-failing supply of pure water. Fire hydrants are placed in suitable positions, and the whole of the water of the lake can be utilised in time of need.". The pool eventually suffered severe leakage arising from coal mining subsidence and had to be relined by the National Coal Board.

A wooden building can be seen on the bank to the left.
