Description:The first chapel was built and the church yard consecrated in 1764. This chapel was used for about 30 years before becoming too small for the congregation and falling into disrepair. A new and enlarged church was built and consecrated in 1795. This was again enlarged in 1827-1828 and gained the Parish status of St John the Baptist of Lane End in 1868. The church suffered from extensive mining subsidence throughout its existence and in 1979 the church was closed and subsequently demolished. It merged with St. James The Less, situated in Uttoxeter Road to become The United Parish of St. James and St. John of Longton.
