Description:This postcard view shows the south-east front of the Bishop’s Palace in the Cathedral Close at Lichfield. The Grade I listed stone building of two storeys with dormer windows in the roof has a date of 1687 on the pediment over the front central bay, the architect was Edward Pierce. The two wings were added later around 1869 by J. Buckler.
The Palace was the residence of the Bishop of Lichfield until 1953 when it was offered to the expanding Lichfield Cathedral School who have occupied it since 1954.
This postcard was published by Valentine’s. It was franked in Lichfield on 19 November 1909 and sent to an address in Stafford.
