Description:This postcard view of St. Chad's Church also shows Littleworth Cottages on the left. Stowe House can just be seen on the far right.

In AD 699 Chad became the first Bishop of Lichfield. He built a church and monastery on an island at the east end of the waters in Lichfield, and dedicated the church to St. Mary. He died shortly after in AD 672, but by this time had firmly established Christianity in the Midlands. Following his death he was canonized and the church was re-dedicated to St. Chad. The church is largely Early English, with a Decorated west tower. The north aisle was restored in 1848.

This postcard was published by the “Dainty” Series. It was posted in Whittington, franked in Lichfield on 4 November 1909 and sent to an address in Newport, Shropshire.
