Description:A postcard view from the footbridge by the mill pool looking across Victoria Park and the River Sow towards the railway station buildings in the distance. Until 1957 the Town Mill stood near this site; the mill wheels are still preserved and may be seen (July 2020) in Mill Bank. In the foreground are the sluice gates, which were part of the Borough Council's flood control plans for the town.

The land between Izaak Walton Walk (centre distance from left to right) and the railway station was marshy and liable to flooding. In 1903 the Corporation bought the land and raised its level by three feet. The area was laid out as Victoria Park, the bandstand was moved to the park from Market Square and Victoria Park opened on 15 June 1908.

To celebrate the coronation of George V in 1911, the park was extended across the River Sow towards Tenterbanks. A bowling green was added and the two parts were linked by Coronation Bridge. A further extension, with tennis courts, a playground and a paddling pool for children opened in 1930.

This postcard was franked on 5 June 1904 at Stafford Station and sent to an address in Brocton, Stafford.
