Description:This postcard view was taken near to the entrance to Christ Church, Foregate Street in Stafford. It shows the Roll of Honour boards in the form of a wooden, roadside wall-mounted Calvary with the names of those who fell in the First World war on three boards arranged around Christ on the Cross. It was positioned to the right of the entrance gateway. Please contact us if you know that this memorial still exists and advise on its location.

Christ Church opened in 1839 and had its own ecclesiastical parish from 1844, being formed out of the parish of St Mary. It closed in 1976 and was demolished in 1983. The site was redeveloped and sheltered housing for the elderly now (September 2020) stands on the site.

On the reverse of this postcard there is a photographer’s mark of Thomas Pearce, 40 Peel Terrace, Stafford and there is an Italian printer’s mark stating Cartolina Postale, Carte Postale, “Ubermor”.
