Description:J. Street's dental surgery at 24 Borough Road, Burton-upon-Trent. James Street would drill and fill a single tooth from 3/6 to 21/-, or provide a complete set of upper or lower false teeth for 42/- to £10. The business was said to be established in the early 1880s but in 1881 James in lodging with his wife and son at his father-in-law's (William Brewin) grocery shop in Horninglow, and his occupation is listed as herbalist so it is possible he bought into an established practice.

Born in Derbyshire in 1854, James was at first employed as a coal miner, later a herbalist then a dental mechanic. In his obituary in 1912 it states that his son had been running the business due to declining health and that they had branches in other towns. A 1913 advertisement mentions business premises both the Burton on Trent and Horninglow.

No. 24, Borough Road is currently a modern YMCA building but the photograph is similar to a nearby building currently (2020) occupied by ArtBeat, so it is possible that the houses have been re-numbered.
