Description:The ruins of the Chapter House and south transept at Croxden Abbey.
The Cistercian Abbey of Croxden was founded in the 1170s by Bertram de Verdun, lord of Alton. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1538 the roofs were removed and the buildings quarried for building stone. The monastic ruins are the most extensive in Staffordshire.
