Date:1911

Description:A postcard view of Newcastle Road, Stone taken from the canal bridge looking north-west, away from the town centre. On the left is the Boat Inn which stood alongside the Trent and Mersey Canal. In the distance is the bridge carrying the railway between Stone and Norton Bridge.

The Boat Inn closed around 1935 when the owners, Bent's Brewery, transferred the licence to their new hotel at Fillybrooks (now, in 2022, the Wayfarer), which opened in 1937. The Boat Inn was then converted into a residence.

This postcard was published by A W Tilley, Photographer, Stone. It was franked in Aston at 9.00pm and later in Stafford at 10.45pm on 29 May 1911. It was sent to an address in Uttoxeter.
